Handyman Visit Checklist: What to Prepare Before Arrival
Make a useful task list, arrange safe access, and know what to check before work starts and when it finishes.

A useful handyman request names the task, the item, and the problem. “Assemble one two-door cabinet; instructions and hardware are on site” gives a professional more to work with than “furniture help.”
Start with a specific task list
For each job, describe the room, item, quantity, approximate size, and any visible problem. Note missing parts or prior damage. Put the most important task first.
- Furniture assembly: list the product and whether the instructions and hardware are available.
- Small household fixes: describe the loose handle, sticking drawer, or damaged fitting.
- Several tasks: group them by room and identify anything dependent on replacement parts.
- Cleaning: make a separate cleaning request rather than assuming it is part of a repair visit.
Do not expose wiring, dismantle plumbing, or open unsafe equipment just to describe a problem.
Arrange access before arrival
Keep the work area clear, provide working lighting, and secure children and pets away from tools. Put furniture instructions and supplied hardware together.
For a condominium or managed property, confirm parking, visitor access, service hours, and any elevator arrangements. Share gate codes and private access instructions only through your booking details—not in a public review.
Review the scope before the timer starts
Discuss the priorities when the professional arrives. Confirm what can reasonably be attempted, whether parts are missing, and whether anything requires a different specialist.
Not every household job is suitable for handyman service. Work requiring a regulated trade, permit, or specialized qualification should be assessed by an appropriate provider. Florida's DBPR license search is a resource for checking applicable professional licensing; it is not a claim about any individual worker.
Understand time and materials
Review the rate, prepaid time, and applicable extra-labor rules in the current checkout. The professional starts and finishes the work timer through the platform.
If materials need to be bought, you should be informed of the additional cost. Retain the receipt and approval information under the order's terms. Buying materials does not make every proposed purchase automatically reimbursable.
Check the work before signing
Review the completed tasks and the final labor amount. The customer and professional have completion-signature steps in their accounts. A signature should reflect the actual work, not conceal an unresolved issue.
Use order support if something is wrong. Confirm an additional amount before authorizing a supported saved-card charge, and keep the invoice and payment confirmation in the order history.
